We set off early yesterday to finalize purchase for another section of the house. Suddenly, we felt an urgency to get most accessories as we expected the renovation to start on the first week of July. The contractors' quotations will be in early next week and we are to decide for the right one immediately. Plus, we will be collecting the house keys on Friday 27 June. We intend to activate Singapore Power services either on friday afternoon or saturday morning.
Yesterday, Chiauw picked us at about 10 in the morning. We planned that we should settle all the sanitary accessories for both the MBR and Guests toilets so that we can focus on something else thereafter. We headed to Home & Bathroom at Balestier Road where we purchased these items:
01. Metris-S Mixer Taps for MBR and Guests Toilets:
05. Hansgrohe Focus E Kitchen Sink Mixer:
Next, we went to pick the black tile for our kitchen. Since, we had decided to go for black gloss, it was easier to choose.
High Gloss Black for kitchen floor:
After that, we dropped by LightCraft lighting showroom at Jalan Sultan to look for the hanging lights for our dining area. It was a big 11,000 sq ft showroom space with three levels. Perhaps, we are fussy and with so many lightings, we could not find one that we really liked. However, we are keeping these two in mind - they do not use the energy saving bulbs:
01. An 8-balls Hanging Light
02. A 6-balls Hanging Light
Our biggest purchase yesterday was LG steam direct driver washer dryer WD-14370RD. This washer dryer is supposedly a 'go green' environment friendly machine with less water and energy consumption. Its washing capacity is 9 kg and dry capacitiy is 5 kg.
At Harvey Norman, we saved S$500 and awaiting for a call from the salesguy to confirm if we would be entitled for further free gifts from LG. We paid $252 for 5 years extended warranty.

Chiauw dropped by yesterday to send samples of the black and white tiles. As much as we don't like mosaic, Chiauw feels to have a little trimming using aluminium-silvery mosaic will break the monotony of the area.
Surprisingly, after looking at the tiles - perhaps, because there are only few samples, we kinda like these pieces:
We will lay these tiles for both the Guests' Toilet and MBR Toilet.
There will be one more tile for the MBR Toilet which we have no sample. It will be chisseled - Chiauw is getting a supplier to custom made the finish. It will serve as a 'feature' wall inside the shower area.
Next, we need to discuss as how to lay the tiles.
Since we are still indecisive about the right black tile for the kitchen and toilets floor, Chiauw brought us to another big shop somewhere in Jurong. Guess, from our past experiences, we didn't want to waste our time to go through the whole of the warehouse. Specifically, we only look for black and white. This time around, we also get the assistant from the sales person.
We feel there are more black and white tiles here, made from various part of the world. This could be the place that we might get the tiles for our place.
Black Tiles
Left to Right:
01. Shiny - Elegant n nice but can be slippery
02. Wavy - Matte finished - practical
03. Matte - Can be slippery
White Tiles
Left To Right:
01. Shiny white with 'rounded' edge
02. Shiny milky white - It is a nice colour but not a dusk colour. It will look sombre during dusk and, psychologically, it may pull down one's mood.
03. Shiny white with 'sharp' edge
We discussed the layout for our open concept MBR Toilet again. This time, we want to shift the shower area to the left. We feel it will make the shower area bigger as compared to erecting it on the right. The colour concept here is, somewhat, finalised - it will be chiselled black tile at shower area, black floor and white wall. Chaiuw will get one of her contractor to glaze the chiselled tile to give it a bit of shine.
Other things to consider:
01. Erecting the rain shower on the wall or from the ceiling?
02. Create ram instead of a 50mm drop at the entrance? We would probably choose the ram.
03. Replace the left wall, where the vanity top is, with wood dividers.
04. Replace the right wall with wood dividers.
05. Full mirror above vanity top.
06. Full length mirror on the door of the cabinet.
It will look something like this:
2D Drawing
3D Drawing
Haha, some people mistook that all the 3D drawings posted here are from Chiauw -- NO! they are not! I am sure Chiauw will give better, more professional, 3D drawings.
This is how the Walk-in-Wardrobe and Study area going to be:
There will be a hidden sliding door in between the two tall wardrobes to separate the study area and MBR. This door will not be visible.
Ah, shopping has no longer become fun! - still, we are excitedly looking forward to do more of it. Such a human irony, I guess. People like to shop and shopping has also become such a therapy to many.
New home owners tend to enjoy retail therapy. Not to be used in a negative term, it is a period of transition - perhaps, it fills the anxieties and comforts the stress level.
We start to realise that with so many choices, it comes with stress too.
Important to Chiauw, she wants us [and all her clients] to be well rounded and well informed. That, when the renovation is completed, and when we look back in future, there will be no regrets.
The one thing that I like about Chiauw is her honesty and integrity in carrying out her professional duty to us. She is bringing us to so many shops - not to get us to confirm purchasing of the items, but to get us be aware of the wide range of stuffs available. We just need to tell her 'ah, this is nice and we want it'. She will take note of them and will take care, through her contacts, to confirm the purchase later. So far, all the this is nice and we want it quotations have come back to us. Still, she often says that she is not satisfied with the quotes and will outsource with few more from other contacts.
We went to two big floor tiles suppliers - one in Changi South and another at Defu Lane. We like the tiles from Changi South but they are dearer. Chaiuw has forewarned us before our trip there. We almost wanted to make a reservation for a particular tile after been informed that they do not have much stocks for it.
Samples tiles from the shop in Changi South:
The Black tiles are being reserved by someone.
Not sure where we want these tiles to be - though, we felt the black will be for the kitchen flooring but it will be too smooth and, hence, will be slippery. Definitely, not a good idea for our future.
Other choices:
01. Black wall and grey floor for MBR toilet
02. Grey floor and white wall for guest toilet
Sample Tiles from Defu Lane:
Combo [choice A] for MBR toilet.
We may choose the black for our Kitchen provided there is a bigger piece.
Combo [Choice B] for MBR Toilet.
Gosh, it was not easy to find a black and white coloured tiles. We spent more than two hours in each shop just to find the right black and the right white.
And the sourcing for tiles continues ....
The Kitchen Sink
Found this in one of the shop on our way home. It is a must buy. Chiauw approved it! and I like it very much! Haha, looks like this is the only item, confirmed, and purchased.
Hmm, now the colour concept for kitchen - floor and cabinet, needs to change.
It is a big white ceramic bowl of 560mm x 905mm with depth of 255mm.
