Wire Management and Wardrobes
We wanted to get away from the normal white switches for Reiki Sanctuary. Legrand was our first choice. We just love the silvery plate. However, we had problem to match the silver face plate with its white base. All base came in white colour. Matching them together, silver and white, looked not right to us.
Though we managed to get the color code from Legrand for its silver colour and gotten the electrician to spray paint the base, we didn't want to employ too many of it in the house. With the base, the switches looked awkwardly bulky [just as picture below].
We had more than fifty switches and sockets, all around the house including for the down lights, and wanted a subtle presence of them [as in picture below] on the walls. At the same time, we didn't want to have too many wire trunks exposed all around the house.
With your floor plan, go through each room and locate the number of socket points/SCV/Telephone line. Advice the electrician about cornices and/or false ceilings, if you are intending to do them. Make sure the routing of wires/cables is done before the installation of cornice/false ceiling.
How we hide wires/cables for electrical sockets and rear speaker in living room
To minimise trunkings exposed in living room, the electrician fished the wires and cables from an accessible space through another wall, which in our case from the guest room.
The wires/cables were routed to far end [near window] pulled from electrical distribution box/amplifier from the living room inside and through wall.
Through the wall, cable out to Living Room for the rear speaker:
How we hide wires/cables with wardrobes
You need to tell your carpenter that the sides of the wardrobes/cabinets are to act as a wall for switches/sockets. He will have to construct additional layer of wood to box-in the wires.
Our switches and sockets at different part of the house:

Interior - Box for Wires
This ceiling fan is fixed directly to the ceiling. A hole had to be made at the false ceiling.
The Switch and Regulator:
Here is the final layout for the socket outlets - there are 52 points all throughout the house. We are trying to do away with extension cord/power extender in the future. Basically, we want a tidy wiring system and that each home appliances and other electrical gadgets have its own dedicated socket.
As HDB does not allow conceal wiring, it is important to lay the wires carefully. Chiauw promises to work very closely with the electrician and to 'hide' as much of the electrical wiring. We will be using white Legrand Mallia series:
For Lighting Switches:
For Cable and Telephone:
For Socket Outlet:
It will be nicer and neater if only we can conceal the wires and to use this socket:
*Sigh*, unfortunately, we have to settle with this type of double socket:
It was a serious meeting with Chiauw yesterday. We were very focussed to finalize [some] little details and I was glad that we managed to 'close' those areas and move forward:
A. Completed Tasks:
01. Built-in Hob and Hood
Chiauw is to go ahead with the purchase of
- 1 unit EF [Italian made] Island Hood F55120RLN Stainless Steel with Glass
- 1 unit Rinnai 2-inner fire burner built in hob RB-2CG
02. Toto Sanitary ware
Chiauw is to go ahead with the purchase of:
- Toto Avante wall hung w.c. CW822J
- Toto Eco Washer TCW02SN
- Toto counter top basin LW542J
- Toto semi recessed basin LW533J
03. Electrical Power Plugs
We identified all the possible electrical gadgets for the entire house. In all, we will be installing 45 units of Legrand electrical power plugs.
04. Celing Lights
We will have false ceiling all throughout the house. We shall leave it to Chiauw to locate all the points and switches for the downlights. We prefer, at certain area of the house, to have a two-way switch. The only place that will have a hanging light would be for the dining area. We also requested for energy saving warm yellow lights.
05. Wardrobe structure
We decided not to use alumix or ximula modular structure.

07. Bed Frame
It will be custom made with a boxed headboard [with lights shooting upwards] and two side tables. The size of Arlington Plush Simmons king mattress is 72 x 75 x 11.5 inches. We want the bed to be low.
08. Wood Flooring
Chiauw strongly suggested that we go for Oak wood. She highlighted the colour of wood will change, and drastically to some wood like maple, few years down the road. The matured colour of oak is supposedly not so drastic from the day of laying them. Plus, some woods will give stained marks between joins after a while - especially with frequent wet mops.
B. Pending Matters:
01. Tank Heater
We need to go down to the house to check for the water pressure before deciding on Hansgrohe Raindance showerpipe. Also, will be considering to install two units of tank heater - 25 litre tank for MBR toilet and 15 litre tank for kitchen and Guests' toilet.
02. Floor Tiles
Earlier before meeting up with Chiauw, we thought of changing the colour scheme for the MBR toilet from black and white to earth brown. We thought it would make the tiles selection easier as we could not find a nice black and white previously.
Chiauw felt that we should still stick to black n white theme for the MBR toilet. She suggested that she should go down to the tiles showroom, picked on few samples, and let us choose thereon. Probably, this will work out.
C. Job Tender
We will be going down to the house this Thursday with some contractors. The purpose of this visit is to let them inspect the house and bid for quotations.
